Boulder Data Backup
Most companies know something about Boulder Data Backup. The accounting records, files, email, customer records, marketing information, and inventory databases are on the Boulder data backup to do list. What many companies and IT departments miss are the systems that allow the workflow or processes of a business to run. The data does little good if it is not accessible, or usable when needed.
Working with a small business in Boulder, we recently found that the data was backed up and restorable. However, they were not backing up and protecting the operating system or the applications on their single server to save space on the tapes. Some of the software they had was from a program they only used for accessing archived data since they had changed to a new system. At the time, they still accessed that information on a daily basis. Unfortunately, they did not have the disks, license keys, or any means of installing the application if they had to reload the program. Without a Boulder data backup that included the full system they would be forced to either not use the old data, or to purchase a new version of the software at considerable expense when they had planned on retiring the application.
A Denver / Boulder data backup review for a larger company in Denver found a server that was not part of the backup process. In this case, the system was not included since it did not contain any data at all. The system simply mapped web orders from the online forms to the inventory system. This company was also focused on protecting data rather than processes. The web system and the inventory system did not integrate with each other and this server had a custom built data mapping application that was key in processing on average $12,000 per day in web orders. While no data would be lost without it, the company would have to attempt to manually process these orders while the system was rebuilt over a few weeks. They had a process to do this, but were simply not staffed to handle the work load.
In both cases a review of the Denver / Boulder Data backups with a view on the company activities rather than just data uncovered these concerns and allowed a better plan to be put in place.

Telecommuting in Denver
Have you noticed the price at the pump going up, up, up. Wishing you could telecommute in Denver? Telecommuting in Denver is something J.P. Schwartz, Inc., a Denver / Boulder based I.T. company has realized can benefit both the employee and the employer. Telecommuting in Denver is a work arrangement in which employees have flexibility in their work location and often times in their hours as well.
Telecommuting in Denver has many benefits. It conserves energy and saves on cost of fuel. It is also better for the environment since one of the largest sources of pollution is the automobile. Less cars on the highway during rush hour also promotes safety on the roads.
Telecommuting in Denver provides the employee with less stress because it can help to allow the employee to balance their family and work life, and provide for a comfortable work environment in their own homes. It also empowers the employee to be responsible for their own productivity, which often results in better results than feeling micromanaged by a supervisor all day. Many stay-at-home moms find that telecommuting in Denver allows them to have the best of both worlds by splitting their work hours up between early mornings, nap times, and evenings when their partner can help out while they work. A study mentioned at HRM Guide states “that more than 80 per cent of IBM managers currently agree that productivity increases when flexible working arrangements are made available. In the current economic situation, financial constraints are encouraging more widespread introduction of such schemes.”
The employee benefits by having employees telecommuting in Denver by often seeing increased productivity, happier employees, and greater loyalty to the company. Employers can cut expenses of not having to provide office space, or at least have a smaller space, they can also often times cut expenses if the employee is providing their own computer, office furniture, etc… Some large, well known companies offer telecommuting benefits to their employees, such as Cisco, Intel, and S.C. Johnson.
There are drawbacks, however to telecommuting in Denver. Lack of face to face contact can leave some employees feeling isolated, someone who is telecommuting must be self motivated and well able to focus even in the midst of distractions. Telecommuting employees must be more aware and able to show that their work is productive and of value to their employer. Telecommuting in Denver doesn’t work for everyone, but it is a good option for many companies and their employees.
Technology today enables more employees to telecommute in Denver without feeling so separated and out of touch from their co workers. At J.P. Schwartz, Inc. we utilize VoIP phones, remote access, smart-phones, and other technologies to stay in touch and work together from different locations on a daily basis. Contact J.P. Denver Laptops
Denver, laptops are expensive, and many times run much slower than desktops. Even worse, they seem to get old and slow much faster than a desktop. There are however 3 tricks that can be used to put new life into an old Denver laptop allowing you to put off a purchase for a few more years.
Make sure you have plenty of RAM in the laptop. Often Denver laptop systems ship with considerably less RAM than a desktop would. When you don’t have enough RAM, the system is very slow.
Replace the battery. After about 2 years, most Denver laptop batteries don’t hold a charge nearly as well as they did when they were new. Battery life can also be extended by turning down the brightness on the screen when on battery power. My laptop has a large screen, for a Denver laptop, and I can get an extra half hour out of the battery by dimming the screen.
Replace the hard drive with a new solid state hard drive. These new drives are fast and use less battery power than a traditional drive. On a recent 3 year old Denver laptop, changing from a standard drive to a solid state drive took the boot time from 3 minutes to 30 seconds. While the drive did cost a good bit, it was considerable less than a replacement of the Denver laptop and the system is now faster than many of the new computers at the store.
The technicians at J.P. Schwartz, Inc. are experts in hardware and upgrades for your Denver laptop. If your Denver laptop needs a boost, contact the technicians at J.P. Schwartz, Inc.

DENVER COMPUTER MEMORY
Denver computer memory is easy to understand with a little clarification. Computers use two types of memory – RAM and Hard drives. RAM is used for making programs work while the computer is running. Hard drives are used for storing software, photos, emails, documents, movies, and music. The trick with computers is to make sure you have enough of each kind of memory. Ensuring you have enough of both can increase performance, and allow you to keep your computer much longer before replacing it.
To determine if your system has enough RAM, right click on the taskbar and open task manager. Under physical memory you will find total and available memory. Usually you want the available memory to be at least one third of the total computer memory, or more than 256 MB. On modern systems, less than that and your computer could be running slowly because it is short on RAM.
To determine if your system has enough Hard Disk space, open windows explorer and select a drive. Right click on the drive and choose properties. You will see a total and a free amount. Here you want at ideally 20% or more free, but no less than 2 GB of free space. If you don’t have enough free space you can remove files that you no longer need, or add drive space. Today it is very easy to get an external USB drive and move things like music files that take a lot of space onto the external drive.
If you have questions about your Denver Computer Memory requirements or available memory, the technicians at J.P. Schwartz, Inc. can help you evaluate your Denver Computer Memory. Contact J.P. Schwartz, today for more information.

Computer Security
Safety, Convenience and Cost of Denver Computer Security
Many companies wonder about Denver computer security, and if their data is safe. This question does not have a simple yes or no answer. There are really a number of questions that need to be asked.
Is the system safe enough?
This really depends a lot on the risk of a compromised system. If you are a bank, have social security information, medical records, or trade secrets stored on the system, costs of a security breach could be disastrous. On the other hand, if it is a shared computer to allow guests to get on the internet, it would just be an irritation if the computer ended up with compromised security. Denver Computer security is a sliding scale, and it should be set to match the damage that could be caused.
Is the system convenient to use?
There are many ways approach Denver computer security on a system. Some limit the performance or the usability of the system. When a computer has only one purpose, like a point of sales system, it is relatively easy to make sure it only does what is intended. On the other hand, a development system, may need to be very flexible in it’s use. Typically, the more functions or purposes a computer is used for, the more difficult it is to secure.
How much does it cost to implement and maintain the Denver computer security?
Denver Computer security can be obtained for a very low cost. The cheapest method is to ensure there is no critical data on the system, and that the system can only be used for a limited purpose. As the data on the system grows and the needs of the user increase, the computer security becomes more complicated. It is possible to secure a system, make it easy to use, and allow for all sorts of uses, but cost increases as additional requirements are added. Don’t forget costs of maintenance, patches, virus definitions, and technical support. In addition to these updates, the system should be checked periodically to ensure it is not compromised, and the settings that keep it safe have not changed.
J.P. Schwartz, Inc. specializes in Computer Security. Our highly trained technicians can help you to evaluate the level of Denver computer security your business needs to employ and implement those security measures for you. With our Maintenance and Monitoring program you can also be assured that your systems are running at their peak conditions. Contact J.P. Schwartz, Inc. today to set up a free consultation regarding your Denver computer security.

iPad in Business – is this a good idea or not?
Everyone is buzzing about the ipad. And why not? It is a fun, new piece of technology, and with the recent release of the iPad2 it’s new features make it even more appealing. Features such as being thinner and lighter, the new dual core A5 chip making it twice as fast, dual cameras (for face time, pictures, and video), and up to 10 hours of battery life. Not to mention the new stylish yet useful cover and new apps.
iPad in Business – How does that work?
Video mirroring allows you to connect the ipad to your HDTV and it will mirror exactly what you are doing on your ipad. This is a great alternative to the bulky overhead projector.
Sending Email and web surfing has now been made faster with the new Dual-Core A5 Chip.
Full 10 hours of battery life, this is much more that you would get with a laptop, making it great for travel on those short business trips.
You can also use Calendar, Notes, and apps that will allow you review and edit common office documents such as Microsoft Office and iWork.
iPad in Business – IT
According to the Apple web site there are available Apps for the iPad that can display IT dashboards, allow access to remote desktops and allow you to manage network resources such as servers.
The Drawbacks to iPad in Business?
Tech Republic points out the top 3 Drawbacks to using iPad in business settings. (http://tinyurl.com/46hy2mw)
Being locked in to the Apple ecosystems is not always looked favorably upon, especially in IT departments. Tweaking a system, changing configuration settings, or building a custom application is difficult if not impossible in Apples rigid ecosystem.
The iPad only runs one application at a time for the most part; this makes multitasking a bit more cumbersome, something most business professionals must do. Although it is sure to be top of the list for upgrades.
And of course, for all the excitement over the new tablet, the iPad still doesn’t replace your laptop or desktop as your primary computer, and can’t replace your smartphone either. So that leaves the iPad in Business as simply an add on device for most industries.
At J.P. Schwartz, Inc. we stay on top of all the latest technologies, so
you don’t have to. We can help you decipher all the new technologies and what fits with your business and budget the best, to help you be successful in business. Contact us today for a consultation.

In this fast paced world we now live in, we are bombarded with data. EMC Corporation, the world specialist in information infrastructure solutions states, “The digital universe continued its skyrocketing growth even during a severe global economic downturn: The creation and replication of new digital information set a record in 2009 by growing to 800 billion gigabytes, 62 percent over the previous year. People continue to take pictures, send e-mail, blog, and post videos. Companies are still adding to their data warehouses. Governments are still requiring more information be kept. And that’s only the beginning of what’s to come. The expansion of the digital universe is expected to gain further momentum over the next decade, increasing 44-fold to 35 trillion gigabytes by the year 2020.” (http://www.emc.com/leadership/programs/digital-universe.htm)
This gives those providing Denver Data Backup Services a new push and a new challenge! As a Denver Data Backup Services Provider, we at J.P. Schwartz, Inc. understand that not all backup services are created equal, and depending on how vital that data is to you or your business really effects which Denver Data Backup Services provider you choose.
For myself individually, if I loose my data from my computer, I can wait a day or two to get it back, and if it can not be restored? Well, it will be a pain for me, and a huge disappointment to say the least, but my livelihood and reputation are not on the line over it. However, if our business were to loose all our data, we would need it restored as soon as possible and not having a restore is just not an option, it could potentially put us out of business. Most businesses today, share this fate with us, if they indeed loose all their electronic files.
As a Denver Data Backup Services Provider, we offer a Managed Data Services plan that we feel is the most comprehensive and redundant backup service in Denver. While no backup service is 100% foolproof, our Managed Data Protection plan is powered by the worlds best computer backup software, Asigra. Asigra has won numerous awards and is trusted by some of the worlds most successful companies, such as CocaCola, Microsoft, Toyota, YMCA, and many more.
Denver Data Backup Services are more important than ever to the businesses in the Denver area. Your business can benefit from this service by potentially lower backup costs when compared to traditional tape-based backups, better budget control when planning for your backup plan, shorter restoration times, peace of mind, and compliance with regulations regarding data within certain industries. With more control over what data gets backed up, how often and where (onsite, cloud, etc…) you will enjoy a more robust backup plan for your data at a reasonable cost. This Denver Data Backup Services solution works with nearly any environment. (Windows, Mac, Desktop, Servers, Laptops, etc…)
Risk of loosing your data to hardware failure, viruses, theft, and so on, should not cause you to loose sleep at night, wondering how you would ever recover. Contact us at J.P. Often someone will ask, “what sets you apart from other IT companies?” As you know, if you have worked with J.P. Schwartz, Inc. one of our greatest strengths is that we get to know our clients on a personal level, we find out about your business, how you want to run it, what your goals are, and we set out to help you achieve those goals and free you up to focus on your business, not your computer network. We become a trusted advisor to your business on all things I.T. related and help you be more successful. But how can we assure a new or potential client that these things are true, if they have never experienced working with J.P. Schwartz before? We gave this a lot of thought and decided, when we are presenting a proposal to our clients, they deserved a Guarantee.
We are proud to introduce the JPS 3 Point Guarantee:
- No Surprise Pricing
- Detailed Proposals
- Communication is Key Guarantee
Here’s how it works:
JP Schwartz, Inc. offers our clients expertise, proven policies, and a 3 point guarantee — to ensure that your IT experience is productive and addresses such concerns as:
- Will an IT company lose your data?
- Will you experience downtime?
- What if you see few or no results?
- What if you don’t understand what you are paying for?
No Surprise Pricing Policy
The fact is no IT company can predict the actual cost of major repair projects. Doing so is a sign of an inexperienced provider. IT environments are complex and issues may arise after a solution is proposed that may take a considerably longer time to fix correctly.
Because of this, JP Schwartz, Inc. provides three pricing structures in every proposal so you know up front what a major project will cost:
- The price for a “best case” situation
- A “most likely” cost
- A “worst case” cost estimate
We guarantee we will never move beyond the “most likely” cost service without informing you and getting your permission to proceed.
Detailed Proposals
Our proposals are always thoroughly detailed to let you see exactly what you are paying for and why before work begins. We outline possible data loss risks or network problems, and offer solutions to manage these issues.
Communication is Key Guarantee
We value communication with our clients first and foremost. On any project expected to cost more than $500, we provide a complete written summary of the work to be done, why it should be done, and the expected results. We will discuss this with you, answer your questions, and have you approve the work only when you are comfortable that you fully understand the proposal.
Does your I.T. company offer you that kind of guarantee and personal service? If, not, we invite you to give us a call and see the difference J.P. Schwartz, Inc. can offer.
You can reach us by phone at 303-482-1242
You can find us online at http://www.jpschwartz.com
